Roland Foisner elected foreign fellow of Czech Learned Society

Every year The Learned Society of Czech republic elects new members following nominations by its regular members. Currently there are 103 regular, 49 foreign members and 14 emeritus members in the Learned Society.

The Learned Society of the Czech Republic is an association of distinguished scholars of the Czech Republic aimed at supporting free conduct of research and furtherance of scientific knowledge. Established in 1994 the Learned Society is a successor of The Royal Bohemian Society of Learning, the Czech Academy of Sciences and Arts and later the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, which was suspended after 1989.

Roland Foisner is University Professor of Biochemistry at the Medical University Vienna and group leader at the Max F. Perutz Laboratories. His research focuses on the dynamics and functions of lamins in nuclear and chromatin organization, in the regulation of gene expression and signalling, and in genetic diseases ranging from muscular dystrophies to premature ageing.
